“Oyapok” Dendrobates Tinctorius Sexed Pair

$275.00

Oyapok tinctorius are an unusual looking dart frog, the color white is not commonly seen in these frogs and Oyapoks have a good helping of it!  Often they will have a lot of white around the ankles and feet, especially males.  I like to think of the white markings around the front ankles as “bracelets”.

These are an uncommon dart frog, and getting a sexed pair that is ready to go into your terrarium is even more uncommon!  This pair is about two thirds grown, and will need a few more months before they are ready to breed.

Exact pair pictured, photos taken early December 2025.

These little “dwarf” cobalts are super nice dart frogs, typical tinctorius but in a smaller package! Only about half the size of the larger forms of tinctorius, such as regular cobalts and other larger tinctorius, but still the same basic frogs. Their smaller size allows for a somewhat smaller terrarium, and these are well suited for a twenty gallon aquarium or an 18 x 18 size Exo Terra or similar, but if you are in a pinch, a pair of these could be fine in a ten gallon.  The nice bright yellow on these frogs is an inherent trait, and not due to supplementation or diet.

The Oyapok locale of  Dendrobates tinctorius is one of the smallest forms of tinctorius, roughly the same size as the French Guiana Cobalts, (Kaw Mountain), and are sought after for their unique and striking coloration. Featuring bone-white patterns that are rare among dart frogs, complemented by “blue jeans” blue legs and light “bracelets” on their front ankles, this is a unique looking dart frog!

This morph of tinctorius is found near the Oyapok river, which runs along the border of Brazil and French Guiana, and flows into the Atlantic just south of the range of hills that includes Kaw Mountain, and the complex of cobalt morphs that exist in those hills.  Like the other tinctorius frogs found in this area, they are small, reaching around  one and three quarters inch, although larger females might get up to around 2 inches in my experience.

These are really a relatively easy form of tinctorius to keep and breed, although froglets are small and juveniles take a little longer to get established.  Nothing special is required to get them to breed, they are really pretty simple and trouble free!

We provide a bit more detailed information about tinctorius in general here.
