The Capurgana locale is in Northern Columbia, and while there are probably other locales/populations of D. auratus I am not aware of that are further south, this locale of auratus originates the furthest south of any form of auratus in the dart frog hobby. This frog is somewhat variable in coloration and pattern, but in general the spotted appearance as seen in the photo is commonly seen, and the color tends to be a green with a hint of yellow or gold. I’ve looked around online for photos and you will find a variety, some spectacular, some pretty drab and ordinary, but based on the frogs I have here, they are definitely more typical of the nicer looking images you’ll find, however they are more green, and not yellow, unfortunately!
Anyway, this excellent Columbian form of D. auratus has become fairly well established in the hobby! We are offering nice well established juveniles. We provide a bit more detailed information about this frog on our Dart Frog Species Profile page for this species, here.
Please do not order dart frogs without becoming familiar with their care. We provide full care instructions on the Dart Frog Care Sheets page, if you are a beginner with dart frogs, please read through this information, and feel free to ask any questions, we are happy to help.
