The Capurgana form of D. auratus is a relative newcomer to the hobby, but it is one of the nicest forms of auratus I’ve ever run across. Some what smaller than the largest forms, and not quite as bold as the boldest forms, however it is certainly no where near as shy as some of the more typically shy forms of auratus. I’ve only had the pleasure of working with this form of auratus for a few months but they are certainly visible in the tank.
This frog is somewhat variable in coloration and pattern, but in general the spotted appearance as seen in the photo holds true, and the color tends to be a green with a hint of yellow or gold. I’ve looked around online for photos and you will find a variety, some spectacular, some pretty drab and ordinary, but based on the frogs I have here, they are definitely more typical of the nicer looking images you’ll find, however they are more green, and not yellow, unfortunately!
Anyway, hopefully this excellent Columbian form of D. auratus will become firmly established in the hobby! We are offering nice large well established juveniles. We provide a bit more detailed information about this frog on our Dart Frog Species Profile page for this species, here.
