Ranitomeya uakarii are a somewhat newer frog to the hobby, maybe showing up around ten years ago. A lot to like with these frogs, they are fairly bold, and have lovely coloration. The legs are painted with a gold yellow reticulated pattern, and the back is boldly striped with red stripes, which vary (from frog to frog) from bright orangish red to a deep dark red.
As I noted, they are fairly bold, and generally seem to be able to do well in a group, as long as there is plenty of room and plenty of food! They breed fairly easily as well, laying clutches of three to five eggs typically for me, usually in film cans on the floor of the tank, although they will also lay on attractive (to them) flat leaves up higher in the tank, especially liking bromeliad bracts. Of course if you don’t collect the eggs, they will transport the tads to a water source and then feed them with food eggs!
These frogs are fairly widely distributed in the Amazon basin, although apparently the frogs in the hobby are originally collected in Peru. Having many populations over a wide range, this frog is considered a species of least concern, or one that is not currently in any danger of extinction.
