Red form Adelphobates galactonotus, Large Juveniles

Original price was: $100.00.Current price is: $75.00.

The Red form of A. galactonotus are unusual, in that, other than thumbnails and egg feeders, these are the only red dart frogs I am aware of in the hobby!  A beautiful sight in the terrarium, these do well in groups, and are a reasonably outgoing dart frog. Groups of three to five are ideal for breeding and display!

While it is fair to describe these Red Galacs as terrestrial, they do often climb in the terrarium, and will explore all over in the tank.  As discussed in other spots on the site, (see the species page linked below) these frogs seem to require a small group to breed.  I’ve heard of people breeding galacs in pairs, particularly the yellow form, but it has never worked out for me.  Often groups of adult frogs will spend a week or so fighting and wrestling in the terrarium to establish a pecking order.  On occasion you may need to remove one frog permanently, this can be assessed by the condition of the frogs, if one becomes thin, or stops coming out to feed, you should remove it.
Most of my galactonotus groups seem to be strongly seasonal, in terms of breeding, and will be bolder and more likely to lay eggs during their “season”.  However I’d be at a loss to say when that season is, or what seems to kick them off, they kind of set their own schedule, often breeding for several months, then stopping for no particular reason.
As with other frogs of this size, I’d recommend a spacious terrarium for a group, the 18 x 18 footprint front opening tanks are a minimum for three, and much better would be 24 long by 18 wide.  They do like to retreat to spots off the ground for sleeping, so the 24 inch high tanks will be appreciated for this, but most of the day will be spent exploring and feeding on the floor of the terrarium.
Status- Ours haven’t been breeding much this past fall (2024) but I expect they will start up soon, plus there are a handful of smaller juveniles that should be available soon.
The frogs offered here are nice size juveniles, fat and sassy.
