Other Frogs

Not everything we work with is a dart frog. This group includes other tropical frog species that do well in vivarium setups similar to those used for dart frogs — high humidity, moderate temperatures, and live plants.

The Solomon Island leaf frog (Ceratobatrachus guentheri) is a fascinating terrestrial species that skips the tadpole stage entirely, hatching as fully-formed froglets. The Vietnamese mossy frog (Theloderma corticale) is an arboreal species with incredible camouflage that makes it look like a clump of moss on a branch.

These species are generally hardy in captivity and make interesting alternatives or companions to a dart frog collection. They are non-toxic and safe to handle, though like most amphibians they do best when observed rather than handled frequently.
