Blue galactonotus are notably arboreal in my terrariums and I’d recommend a taller tank for them. I notice they practically fall out of the top of the terrarium when I open the door to feed them…it’s pretty funny. Anyway, they seem to spend a lot of time, even during the daytime, perched on the leaves high in the terrarium.
As with the other two types of galactonotus common in the hobby, these are going to be easier to breed in small groups, three to five. They are pretty seasonal, and they can be particularly reclusive during their off season. I’ve not really been able to correlate their breeding to any particular season. I’d rate them as somewhat less inclined to breed than the Orange and Red forms, although my sample size is smaller, in that I have only worked with one group of these.
One other thing, a couple of my blue galactonotus have slowly turned black. The blue on the sides and back is slowly retreating into patches, and it is obvious that at some point these frogs will be completely black. I’ve seen photos of frogs in the wild that share this characteristic, so it’s not just mine! This seems to be an individual characteristic, some are turning black, others not, and they do it at different rates. Makes things interesting!
Status- Some breeding over 2024 but issues getting tadpoles out of the water. Occasionally available, best to get in touch if you want some.
